When to Replace Your Tires

Tires are one of the most forgotten about parts of your car, but one of the most important. They face the most wear and tear so it’s important to replace them as needed. As they get worn, traction is reduced, and it can even affect your gas mileage. So how do you know when it’s time for new tires? Here are some tips for examining your tires and their life.

Check the tread. Tire treat is to improve traction, especially on wet roads. A good rule of thumb is once the treat hits 2/32 of an inch or less, its time to replace. Anything less than that can be a serious safety risk. A quick test can be setting a penny at the thinnest tread, if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head or copper above it – it’s time to replace the tire.

  1. Check for tire thread. Not to be confused by tread because tire thread is much different. Threading appears on tire thin spots. Once the thread or ware bars can be seen you are at risk of wearing through the tire.
  2. Check for damages. If you notice large nicks out of your tire or what looks like a puncture mark you should plan to replace the tire as soon as possible. Small things like this can do damage to the tire’s integrity.
  3. Look for Bubbles. Bubbles oftentimes occur on the outside rim of the tire. Most of them are caused by rubbing the tire against a curb or parking marker but hitting a large pothole or driving one low tire pressure can make them pop up, too. Bubble bulges can lead to tires blowing out because the inner wall has a breach.
  4. Vibration while driving. While we know vibration can be caused by a wide range of large issues, unevenly worn tires can lead to a bumpy ride.
  5. Check your spare tire. Spare tires get forgotten about until needed. Sometimes they can sit for years leading to a dry-rotted tire.
  6. Age. Although most people wear out tires before they get to 6 years, you should never drive on a tire over 6 years old. If you need help figuring out how old your tires are, check out this post.

Electronic Corrosion Protection?

Car owners living in wintry climates like Ohio are constantly worried about cleaning road salt off their vehicles at the end of the day, to prevent rust from occurring. There are several ways to prevent corrosion. There is undercoating, spraying a tar-based substance on the exposed parts of a vehicle's underbody. There is dripless oil spray, a wax-like substance applied to the entire body of the vehicle, it hardens once it has dried. There is drip oil spray, and that is the most commonly recommended rust protection. But there is one new, greener method of corrosion protection , electronic corrosion protection (ECP). Electronic Corrosion Module protects the entire vehicle ECP emits a low power, pulse-wave, radio-frequency signal across all sheet metal surfaces of the vehicle. It protects against rust perforation that starts from the inside-out or the outside-in, even if it's caused by stone chips or scratches. The module's electromagnetic pulse-wave is effectiv...

Ceramic Paint Coating vs. Dealership Paint Coating

Ceramic paint coating services are provided by Classy Chassis in Ashland, Ohio. If you've recently bought a new car from a dealership, you've probably been offered a paint protection program. Yet, you might be wondering what other options are out there, and if those services are really as great as your salesman is making them out to be. Ceramic coating is an alternative option, and the process involved is much more intricate than the service you'll get elsewhere. This isn't to say that local dealers are necessarily bad, but you'll get more for your money when you bring your vehicle to a professional ceramic coater.   Oftentimes, professional coaters are very knowledgeable and have enough experience to know that rushing the process is not going to result in a quality coating. They'll make sure your vehicle has a clean surface before application, and they'll allow the coating to cure properly. The difference isn't just in the careful attention to detail t...
